| Jackson Hole is one of the world's great ski areas. It has masses of snow, spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife and an authentic Western atmosphere with swing door saloons and wooden sidewalks. Named after a fur trapper called Davey Jackson in the 1800s the town has managed to retain much of its character with its Wild West bars and Shady Lady saloon. The ski area, for which Jackson is justifiably famous is 12 miles from the town and served by a regular ski shuttle throughout the day. Teton Village at the base of the slopes is a small resort in its own right and many skiers prefer to stay out there to get the maximum hours skiing possible |
