Here’s our guide to Lech
Skiing and the Mountains
- Your lift pass includes Zurs, St Anton & Sonnenkopf. This really is a huge and varied ski area with a fantastic snow record.
- The route between Lech and Zurs and back to Lech is called the White Circle. It’s an amazing days skiing and regularly voted in the top 5 ski days in the world. You won’t believe you’ve skied 70km by the time you have finished.
- Heli skiing isn’t allowed in the Arlberg but Lech is under a different jurisdiction and the choppers can use a specific peak. You can ski fresh tracks on Mehlsack when everywhere else is tracked out.
- Lech has the best terrain park in the Arlberg area, with all of the jumps and kickers graded. Even park novices can give it a try and there’s also a big pipe to play on to.
- Although it is known as an easier area than St Anton and Zurs the black ski routes in Lech, which are never pisted are pretty nerve wracking. Try the descents from Rufikopf to Lech and from the Palmen Alp restaurant to the Steinmahder lift, they’re fantastic in fresh snow.
- For the competitive racers out there, there is a speed gun on the run where you can clock your speed as you schuss down the mountain. Don’t worry too much as it is adjacent to the nursery slope!
Resort and après ski
- Lech was voted the most beautiful village in Europe in 2004.
- The horse drawn sleigh ride from Lech to the little hamlet of Zug is a magical experience. Snuggle under your warm blanket as you travel by moonlight alongside the glistening river to enjoy a gluwien in one of the small hostelries.
- Enjoy a fabulous lunch at the Alte Goldenerberg in Oberlech. Oberlech is a stunning little village on the slopes above Lech, and it’s pedestrianised so there are little tunnels connecting the hotels to the cable car and the village, and they ferry things around in golf carts.
- The tobogganing here is extremely fun, it starts in Oberlech and descends through the forest 1.2km into the centre of Lech. It’s open every day from 9am to 10pm so is an ideal activity for après ski. Don’t worry - you don’t have to do it in the dark as the whole run is floodlit.
- Even the ski gear fanatic can get excited about coming to Lech. Strolz has been hand making ski boots since 1921 and there are no better fitted or custom-made boots in the world. They are based in Lech so visit their shop for your passport to comfort
