No course on the Algarve has been talked about with such high expectation before it even opened. Well we are delighted to report that the experience lives up to the hype. From the moment you are greeted at the bag drop to the time the concierge fetches your car, you are treated to the full ‘Troon Golf experience’. The course itself bears all the hallmarks of Nicklaus Design, elevated tees, heavy bunkering etc, but is also sympathetic to the natural rolling terrain of the land, complete with ancient olive groves and umbrella pines. The condition is immaculate, with large fast running greens, carpet like fairways and bunkers that don’t seem to have a grain of sand out of place! The magnificent clubhouse is ideal to enjoy a post round drink or meal. It’s not cheap, but the green fee does include buggy hire, range balls and club cleaning.

Vila Gale Tavira Hotel

Vila Gale Tavira is located in the heart of Tavira town, just 30 minutes east of Faro airport. Relatively free from mass tourism, Tavira provides a taste of the real Algarve, and a central location from which to play the 8 golf courses that lie in this area.

The Vila Gale Tavira is rectangular in shape, with rooms that either look out to the town or inwards to the pool; we would recommend these, as they tend to be a little quieter. They all have air-conditioning, satellite TV, safe, minibar, hairdryer and balcony or terrace.

There is a small health club with indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam baths and gymnasium, as well as an outdoor pool and sun terrace at the Vila Gale Tavira. There is a billiards & games room, shop and nightly entertainment, as well as a ferry service to take you to the beach

The Vila Gale Tavira has two restaurants within one, The Aaladino buffet, that serves breakfast and half board, and The Aaladino grill that offers a la carte. It is worth meeting for a drink in the Ali Baa bar before heading off to explore the many restaurants within the town.
