Day 1: Arrival Colombo

Welcome to Sri Lanka, the pearl of the Indian Ocean. On arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be met by your chauffeur guide and driven into the city. Relax after the journey then enjoy an evening tour. Colombo, the trade and commercial capital, has long been the traditional gateway to the Orient. Sri Lanka’s largest city is located on the west coast and draws together all the cultures, religions and influences of foreign lands into a pot-pourri of sounds, smells and a kaleidoscope of colour. Day 2: Habarana

Today you may have some more time for sightseeing or shopping in Colombo before you are picked up from your hotel and driven the four and a half hours to Habarana, a town situated in the hearrt of the island's cultural triangle. Check in to you hotel, the Cinnamon Lodge, Habarana, and the rest of the day and evening is free for you to explore on your own or take one of a number of optional tours to see some of the highlights of this fascinating and historic part of Sri Lanka.

Day 3: Sigiriya

After an early breakfast, you will be taken to climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the island's most spectacular attractions with its unique complex of water gardens, the frescoes of beautiful maidens and mirror wall. And the views from the summit are breathtaking. In the evening travel to Polonnaruwa, the second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, This city is known to have been the pinnacle of the Golden Age of Sri Lanka. Day 4: Anuradhapura

Today you visit the first capital of ancient Sri Lanka, Anuradhapura.This is another UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the north central part of the country and was the first capital, the centre of the island's Buddhist civilization and undoubtedly the grandest city of ancient Sri Lanka. Special places you visit include the remains of a magnificent multi-storied residence for monks and Jetevanarama – a huge dagoba said to be the largest brick built structure in the world. Day 5: Kandy

Today you are driven the one hour to Kandy and check into your next hotel, the Cinnamon Citadel. In the evening visit the famed Temple of the Tooth during a city tour. Commonly known as "Sri Dalada Maligawa" the temple is an important shrine for Buddhists as it holds the tooth relic of Lord Buddha. It is famous for its carvings and the beautiful art that is unique to Sri Lanka. The Dalada Maligawa is the most sacred temple in the whole of the country and thousands of people line up each day to worship there.

Day 6: Kandy

After breakfast you are taken to visit the Royal Botanical Gardens which are four miles southwest of the town centre at Peradeniya close to the banks of the Mahaweli Ganga. These gorgeous gardens were first planted and laid out for king Kirthi Sri Rajasingha (1747-1780) and cover some 150 acres of trees lawns and flowering shrubs. Under British rule the royal park became a botanical garden in 1821 and is the largest of Sri Lanka’s three main botanical gardens. Highlights include a palm avenue planted by the British in 1905 and an enormous spreading Java fig.

Day 7: Nuwara Eliya

Today you will leave Kandy and travel to Nuwara Eliya visiting a tea plantation and tea factory on the way. This is where some of best tea in the world is produced and you will be told all about the process of manufacturing tea and also gain first-hand experience on how to pick the leaves before being invited to taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea which begins its journey as raw green leaves in the hills and ends up as a final golden-brown graded product which we all know well. Later check in to your hotel, the Jetwing St Andrew’s, Nuwara Eliya.

Day 8: Horton Plains

Leave very early in the morning with a packed breakfast for the Horton Plains for a morning of great birding. This National Park, on Sri Lanka's highest plateau in the central mountains, is a strange and tranquil region with an astounding variety of scenery – from misty mountains to grasslands, from marshes to ice cold streams, lakes and waterfalls. Lots of birds and wildlife to be seen today before returning to your hotel in Nuware Eliya where the rest of the day and evening is free for you to explore on your own.

Day 9: Ella`

You take a break from the road today when you travel to Ella by train from Nuwara Eliya.The scenery en-route is magnificent and far superior to travelling in a car. After arriving in Ella you will be met by your chauffeur guide at the train station and he will take you on to your next hotel, the 98 Acres Resorts and Spas, Ella. Relax and enjoy all that this plush resort and spa has to offer and tonight have dinner trying some of the local delicacies after going out to explore the area.

Day 10: Little Adam's Peak

Today there is an optional excursion to Little Adam’s Peak. The path up the hill begins next to 98 Acres Resort and Spa, and trails through lush green tea plantations in the beginning. This is not a particularly challenging hike but the climb is well worth it as you have a fantastic view from the top over the landscape around Ella.You can go on your own or a guide can be arranged who will take you to the top and back. The rest of the day is free for you to relax at the resort.

Day 11: Yala

Today after breakfast you check out of the 98 Acres Resort and Spas and are driven the three and a half hours to Yala where you stay for the next two nights at a jungle chalet at the Cinnamon Wild hotel. This hotel is only 10 minutes from the Yala National Park where you can experience the best of Sri Lanka's wildlife. During the rest of the day you can take a trip into the park or stay at your hotel and relax because tomorrow there's an organised game drive.

Day 12: Yala National Park

Enjoy a morning game drive at Yala National Park. Transfer time: approximately 10 mins (Hotel to National Park) Optional evening game drive.

Day 13: Galle

Another three and a half hour drive today when you leave the Yala National Park and travel to Galle, which is on the coast, and check in for the first of three nights at the Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel. With its rich multi-ethnic background this hotel is in a perfect location situated on the coast and just outside the city centre. Designed by Geoffrey Bawa, who is probably Sri Lanka's greatest modern architect, it boasts swimming pools,a lovely spa and has 63 rooms and three luxurious suites.

Day 14: Galle

Today you are taken on a tour of Galle, seeing all the sights. Galle, said to be the famous Tarshish of the Bible where King Solomon obtained gems and spices, is a living UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the port where the Portuguese first landed in Sri Lanka in 1505. Captured and fortified by the Dutch who ruled maritime Sri Lanka in the 17th and 18th centuries, the city still retains the air of old Holland. Within the well preserved 90 acre fort and ramparts built in 1663 are old Dutch churches and monuments and lots of well preserved old Dutch houses and narrow alleys.

Day 15: Galle

Day 16: Bentota

Today you leave the lap of luxury in Galle and travel the one and a half hours to another paradise location - the Cinnamon Bey, Beruwala - at Bentota, for four days of relaxation and adventure. This luxurious resort hotel is one of the largest along the southern coastline and its rich and diverse offerings make the entire complex a wonderful experience. During your stay you can take advantage of the six specialised dining options and the grand Turkish theme.

Day 17: Bentota

Another great day to relax and lap up the exotic surroundings at Cinnamon Bey, Beruwala. This beachfront hotel with a Turkish theme is set along the Indian Ocean and surrounded by tropical greenery. It's one and a half miles from Hettimulla train station and two miles from the Kande Viharaya Temple so if you tire of relaxing in the tropical sunshine you can always take a train ride to explore another part of the region or take a leisurely walk and see the temple.

Day 18: Bentota

Day 19: Bentota

Your final day in this tropical paradise, so make the most of it. Bentota is a resort town on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast. Its long beach stretches north, where it becomes a sandy strip known as Paradise Island, parallel to Bentota Lagoon. Coral-rich dive sites include Canoe Rock. On Bentota River, the centuries-old Galapota Temple has a large Buddha statue. Southeast is Lunuganga, the estate and gardens of architect Geoffrey Bawa. Northeast is his brother Bevis's Brief Garden.

Day 20: Negombo

Today you leave Bentota for the two and a half hour drive to Negombo for your final night on this tropical island. On arrival check in to the Jetwing Beach Hotel and relax after the journey before going out to explore the town of Negombo, a city on the west coast north of Colombo. Near the waterfront the remains of the 17th century Dutch Fort now house a prison and the lagoon, which is lined with fishermen's huts, feeds into the Dutch era Hamilton Canal. Neoclassical St Mary's Church, with its decorated ceiling, is well worth a visit.

Day 21: End of tour

Today your adventurous as well as relaxing 21 day tour around Sri Lanka comes to an end.
