Location

The 5-star Bayerischer Hof is an elegant hotel originally opened in 1841 on the wishes of King Ludwig I who wanted a comfortable place for his guests to stay. Since then, it has been owned by the Volkhardt family for over 100 years who have maintained the hotel’s high standards, offering guests a warm welcome, regal-style hospitality and exceptional service. It also offers a stylish interior, luxurious amenities and a great location in the heart of Munich’s downtown area next to the city’s famous pedestrian area, shopping streets as well as museums. To get here, it’s a 45-minute drive from Munich airport, or just 1km from the city’s central rail station.

Rooms:

There are 340 rooms to choose from at the Bayerischer Hof, as well as several interior styles to choose from – cosmopolitan rooms have a contemporary chic decor that combines rich dark red and black wall colours, leather furnishings and hand-crafted Wenge wood lamps and sand-coloured marble bathrooms. Graf Pilati rooms named after the famous architect boast a stylish interior that blends neutral colours, classic furnishings and floral fabrics. The colonial-style option features lots of dark wood and richly upholstered furniture, while Laura Ashley accommodations are, as the name suggests, inspired by the famous English design company’s cottage look. There are also 60 suites which offer more space, some of which have panoramic views across the city.

Activities:

The hotel is well located close to Munich’s 900-metre-long pedestrian area. Situated between Marienplatz and Karlsplatz, it’s home to shopping opportunities galore and plenty of attractions such as the Old Town Hall and New Town Hall. Further afield, the city’s number one attraction is the Residenz, once the home of Bavaria’s Wittelsbach rulers, now a museum that offers a glimpse into their life of opulence. If you fancy relaxing in the city’s green space, the Englischer Garten – or English Garden – is among Europe’s biggest city parks and a favourite for locals and tourists.

Dining:

Enjoy a creative seasonal menu and excellent wines at the Atelier restaurant which boasts a cosy contemporary lair-style decor with lots of stone and wood accents. The Garden restaurant is a dining room within a modern industrial-style conservatory with a fireplace serving Mediterranean as well as German dishes. For traditional Bavarian style cuisine, the Palais Keller is the perfect place, serving keg beer and pretzels among other treats. Trader Vic’s offers an Asian-inspired menu, while the Blue Spa Bar & Lounge is the place to go for light meals and refreshing drinks. There’s also a dining room dedicated to breakfast alone.

Spa:

Leave the stresses of life behind at the Blue Spa set amid an architect-designed roof garden and offering a selection of indulgent treatments.
