Day 2: Rabat to Fes

This morning after breakfast you leave Rabat and head on to Meknes, one of the imperial cities. Today Mekenes is something of an undiscovered gem - less hectic than Marrakech, less famous than Fez and without Rabat's political clout, making it the ideal place to go to see Morocco without the crowds. Here you visit Bab Mansour and Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, before continuing to the holy town of Moulay Idriss stopping at the amazing Roman archaeological site of Volubilis on the way. Then continue to Fès where you stay tonight.

Day 3: Fes

Enjoy a full day sightseeing tour of the city including a visit to the tanneries, the 8th century Medina and markets, the 14th century district as well as the modern city. Fez has been the seat of power in Morocco for four different dynasties, for around 650 years. Built by Idris I between 789 and 808, Fez relinquished its most recent hold of the throne in 1912, when French administrators moved the capital to Rabat. But it has never lost its heritage, and more than anywhere else in the entire Arab world, this is the place to see a living, breathing medieval city.

Day 4: Fes to Marrakech

This morning after breakfast at your hotel you may have some time to see more of the sights before saying farewell to Fes and beginning the scenic journey to Marrakech during which you pass the cultivated plain of Saiss, the charming ski resort of Ilfrane and Azrou, a typical Berber town. En route stop at Beni Mellal, the capital of the rich Tadla palin region, before continuing to the exciting city of Marrakech where you check in to your hotel for a two night stay.

Day 5: Marrakech

Today you have a full day sightseeing tour of the city including historical sights, the souks in the Medina and the famous Djemaa El Fna Square. Marrakech was founded by the Almoravids in 1062 after a period of instability had gripped the country. The city has been in and out of favour over the centuries with four different dynasties making it their capital. Today it's the most famous city in Morocco and was voted by Trip Advisor as Best Destination in the World in 2015.

See the still basin and extensive olive groves of the Menara park and the Majorelle, a fabulous subtropical botanical garden with multi-coloured Bougainvillea and various Lily-covered pools. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore on your own seeing more of the sights, or you can take one of many different guided tours. Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 7: Marrakech to Casablanca

Today you leave Marrakech and drive towards the Atlantic coast to the city of Casablanca, which has the image that the 1943 Humphrey Bogart film conveyed to cinemagoers in the drab war years. On arrival, visit the Grand Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest in the world, which can accommodate up to 25,000 worshippers and is a masterpiece of Hispano-Moorish traditional architecture.
