Windhoek makes a great place to begin or break a journey through Namibia and the accommodation choices, food variety, cultural sights, shopping and African urban buzz give it an edge not found anywhere else in the country. But while visiting it's well worth taking this seven day tour to some of the beautiful surrounding areas during which you will experience plenty of game drives in the famous Etosha National Park.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Windhoek to Swakopmund

You will be collected from your Windhoek hotel in the morning for the journey to Swakopmund and on arrival in the early afternoon check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore on your own. A wide variety of optional activities are available, ranging from dolphin cruises, desert tours and scenic flights to quad biking, paragliding and parachuting so there is never a dull moment.

Accommodation: Classic Swakopmund Hotel or similar

Day 2: Swakopmund

Swakopmund is the perfect resort location for walking tours, shopping, relaxing at a quaint coffee shop or taking a stroll along the sandy beaches. Being Namibia's playground, a wide variety of optional activities are also on offer and if you have already tried a marine life cruise, desert tour or scenic flight and don't fancy the quad biking, you can always get your adrenaline fix by having a go at kite surfing in this holiday playground.

Accommodation: Classic Swakopmund Hotel or similar

Day 3: Cape Cross

Today you head further north via the Brandberg, Namibia's highest mountain, into the Damaraland, one of the least populated and geologically diverse areas in Africa. This harsh, rocky environment is home to lots of rare animals. Visit Twyfelfontein, a heritage site where Bushman communities engraved and painted more than 2,500 pictures some 6,000 years ago. Close by, explore the Burnt Mountain, Organ Pipes and the Petrified Forest - all geological phenomenas and see the oldest living desert plant on Earth. After visiting a traditional village check in to your lodge.

Accommodation: Classic Ugab Terrace Lodge or similar

Day 4: Etosha Safari Camp

After a relaxed breakfast, today you are driven to the Etosha National Park, famous for its vast amount of wildlife and unique landscape. Once you have reached your camp, you have the rest of the day at leisure, but you can also book an afternoon game drive in open vehicles with the lodge. This is a great time to see all the animals feeding and playing after the heat of the day. Enjoy dinner back at the lodge and swap stories around a fire as the sun sets over the national park.

Accommodation: Classic Etosha Safari Camp or similar

Day 5: Etosha National Park

Today is devoted purely to the abundant wildlife found in the national park, which surrounds a parched salt desert known as the Etosha Pan. The park is home to four of the Big Five - elephant, lion, leopard and rhino - and you have a good chance to see them all. The waterholes support a rich diversity of birds and mammals, including rare species such as black-faced impala, roan, cheetah, and Namibia's smallest antelope, the Damara dik-dik. Enjoy morning and evening game drives.

Accommodation: Classic Mokuti Etosha Lodge or similar

Day 6: Etosha National Park

Today take another early game drive in the Etosha National Park during which you may encounter animal species you have not seen the previous day and look forward to any new surprises at the different waterholes visited. In the afternoon return to your lodge and relax in the sun and the rest of the evening is free for you to explore the area around the lodge before enjoying dinner under a star filled African sky.

Accommodation: Classic Mokuti Etosha Lodge or similar

Day 7: Etosha to Windhoek

After breakfast this morning say farewell to your lodge in Etosha National Park and begin the drive south back to Windhoek arriving in the late afternoon. You are dropped off at your hotel where you can stay on and explore the town or at the international airport to catch an onward flight and continue your African adventure or begin your journey home, having experienced one of the continent's most fascinating regions.
