Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Moshi

Your holiday begins today as you're picked up from Arusha town or Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to Moshi, commonly known as the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 2: Moshi to Machame

This morning you'll transfer to Machame Gate and begin your ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro via the Machame Route. Depending on the weather, this will be a moderate to very demanding day, as the trek winds through beautifully lush rainforest. You'll stay overnight in mountain tents at Machame (3,000m.)

Day 3: Machame to Shira

You'll start early this morning, leaving the forest and climbing a steep ridge for three to four hours before dropping into a gorgeous river gorge, then climbing gently up onto the moorland of the Shira Plateau. On clear days the views over the heath from here are breathtaking. You'll camp overnight in mountain tents at Shira (3,840m)

Day 4: Shira to Barranco

Today you'll walk for five to six hours, with little overall gain in elevation but plenty of beautiful views of the spectacular Barranco Valley. You'll camp overnight in mountain tents at Barranco (3,950m).

Day 5: Barranco to Barafu

Today you're in for six to eight hours of trekking, up the Barranco Wall, then across scree and ridges to the Karanga Valley for lunch, before continuing up to Barafu (4,600m), where you'll camp overnight in mountain tents.

Day 6: Barafu to Mweka Camp and Summit

A super-early start today as you rise just before midnight and begin the challenging eight-hour walk through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. Here you will stop for a short rest and be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you're ever likely to see. Then you'll begin the two-hour ascent, usually in snow, to Uhuru Peak (5,896m). This final stage of the trek isn't far but expect slow progress since the air at this altitude contains only half as much oxygen as at sea level. There's time to take stock and enjoy the views from the rooftop of Africa before you begin your decent, with a brief rest at Barafu Camp before descending all the way down to Mweka Camp, where you'll stay overnight.

Day 7: Descend to Moshi

After breakfast you'll descend through the lower heath and rainforest to Kibololoni Gate, where you'll be met and transferred back to a base hotel in Moshi for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Depart Moshi

Your trip of a lifetime comes to an end today as you transfer back to Arusha town for your onward journey.
