This wonderful week long South African tour combines great wildlife experiences in the vast Kruger National Park and Mkhuze Game Reserve with a visit to the fascinating royal kingdom of Swaziland. Beginning in Johannesburg and ending on the coast at Durban, you will have the chance to see so many animals and exotic while on safari and see lots of memorable sights as you travel between these two famous cities.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Johannesburg

You are picked up from your city hotel this morning to begin the journey to the 'Land of the Rising Sun - Mpumalanga - via the magnificent Panorama Route. The most spectacular stretch of this route is the Blyde River Canyon. From many well-positioned vantage points you have a views of the 30 mile long gorge, which starts at Bourke's Luck Potholes and ends at the Three Rondavels. Then stop at God's Window and the Mac Mac Falls before a late afternoon arrival at your hotel at Perry's Bridge Hollow and enjoy dinner.

Day 2: Kruger

Early this morning you will leave on an open vehicle safari through the Kruger National Park. The world-renowned Kruger offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. At nearly two million hectares, the reserve is the flagship of South African National Parks and is home to an impressive number of flora and fauna. Return to your hotel in the afternoon and spend the remainder of the day at leisure. You will have the option to return to the national park to absorb the tranquil beauty of an evening safari.

Day 3: Swaziland

After breakfast, journey to the Royal Kingdom of Swaziland. This tiny mountainous kingdom is filled with bygone African traditions and culture and offers beautiful scenery and attractions such as game reserves and art and craft outlets. Enjoy a showcase of the traditional Swazi culture followed by lunch at the Matsamo Cultural Village then continue to the Ngwenya Glass Works to see master craftsmen create beautiful sculptures and artwork from molten glass. Your hotel tonight is located in the beautiful Ezulwini Valley.

Day 4: Mkhuze Game Reserve

First visit the Swazi Candle Factory where each candle is made and finished by hand using the age-old technique "millefiore". No two are the same and you see an astonishing array of patterns, shapes and designs. Continue via Big Bend into KwaZulu Natal arriving at your hotel in the afternoon, in time for a scenic drive up the Ubombo Mountains. At the top as sun sets stop for sundowners then return to your hotel, the Ghost Mountain Inn, for dinner on the terrace or in the classically styled restaurant.

Day 5: Mkhuze Game Reserve

Today you are picked up from your hotel after breakfast and driven to the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve for an afternoon of wildlife viewing. This reserve covers a huge area and it was here that the white rhino was famously saved from extinction. See the animals in their natural habitats hunting, resting and at play before returning to the Ghost Mountain Inn for another memorable dinner on the terrace under the stars or in the stylish restaurant.

Day 6: Durban

Continue the journey today along the Elephant Coast of KwaZulu Natal to St Lucia, located at the southern extremity of the Simangaliso Wetland Park - a World Heritage Site. Here you enjoy a boat trip which provides an opportunity to view crocodiles, hippo and numerous bird species, including the elusive African Kingfisher Eagle. Then travel on to Durban, where east meets west - a city beating to to the pulse of Africa. Your hotel, the Benjamin, is located on the Gold Mile - Durban's distinctive beach front.

Day 7: End of tour

This morning you are taken on a Durban City Tour where you will spend the morning discovering the cultural and historical contrasts of the city. The tour ends with drop-off at King Shaka International Airport where you can catch an onward flight or begin your journey home. On this great trip you have every chance of seeing Africa's Big Five - lion, leopard, buffalo rhino and elephant - while on safari as well as lots of other famous sights.
