You've seen the film Gorillas in the Mist, now's your chance to live the experience first hand on a wonderful eight day safari trip in Uganda. Throughout the tour you have an English speaking guide as you spend two nights in a game lodge then three nights at a gorilla lodge with all park fees and permits included. As well as seeing lots of wildlife you will travel up into the mountains for an incredible meeting with the giant apes that will live with you forever.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Entebbe

On arrival at Entebbe airport you will be met by one of our safari tour representatives and driven to the Kampala Serena Hotel, which is an inspirational blend of five-star polish, pan-African panache, social style and business reliability. Ideally located at the very heart of Kampala, the hotel stands in 7.2 acres of landscaped grounds and water gardens and is encircled by the seven hills of Kampala. It has a roof-top terrace, rock-sculptured pool terrace, three restaurants, two bars and a stylish spa.

Day 2: Entebbe to the lodge

Today after breakfast you head west through Mubende arriving in Fort Portal for lunch before joining an organised afternoon guided walk in the vanilla plantation, where you stroll around the crater lake which is home to flocks of exotic birds. Then you check in to the Ndali lodge or the nearby Kyaninga Lodge where you stay for the next two nights. Check out the wildlife then return to the lodge for a memorable dinner under the African night sky.

Day 3: Safari Lodge

After breakfast at your lodge begin a half day search of the cheeky chimpanzees in the forest, also looking out for the Red Colobus monkey (an endemic species only found in this forest in Uganda). Other primates you may see today include the Grey Cheeked Mangabey and others. In the afternoon, take a swamp walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary for a close up encounter with nature returning to your lodge in the evening in time for another sumptuous dinner.

Day 4: Safari Lodge to Gorilla Lodge

Enjoy your final breakfast at the game lodge then travel to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with picnic lunches provided which you can stop and eat on the way during the six hour journey. The drive takes you through the Ishasha Plains, an area that is famous for its tree climbing lions. Arrive at Buhoma, the gorilla staging area, where you have dinner and the first of three nights at the Buhoma Lodge. Located just five minutes from Bwindi Park headquarters, the lodge has eight traditionally built wooden cottages.

Day 5: Gorilla Lodge

A memorable day of gorilla trekking starts straight after breakfast. You join the rangers and trackers on a trek through the thick and steep vegetation in search of the great apes. After viewing the gorillas and watching the various families at play, you have you a picnic lunch before returning to comfortable Buhoma Lodge, where all the cottages have en-suite bathrooms and hot and cold running water. Enjoy dinner with fellow guests and talk about all you have sen and done in the misty mountains.

Day 6: Gorilla Lodge

Another wonderful day of gorilla trekking. This time you will be taken to another spot to meet a different group of Mountain Gorillas on a trek that can take up to eight hours. Later return to the lodge and enjoy the first class service which includes cocktails, wines, beers and soda at the viewing deck overlooking the forest. At this lodge it is not uncommon for gorillas to be seen walking past the buildings, so keep your eyes peeled before joining other guests for you final dinner.

Day 7: Gorilla Lodge to Kampala

Today you may have time for some more trekking in the area before saying farewell to the gorillas when you check out of the lodge and begin the scenic drive back to Kampala. The journey takes you through the beautiful mountainous area of Kigezi and the Ankole region where you should see some of the indigenous Long Horned cattle before arriving Kampala in the evening. Then settle in for another night of luxury at the world-class Kampala Serena Hotel.

Day 8: End of tour

After breakfast relax around the hotel pool and soak up the sunshine for as long as you can before being picked up and driven to Entebbe airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey back home. Getting up close to the Uganda gorillas is one of the world's best wildlife experiences and it will leave you with so many wonderful memories and some great pictures of your encounters with these gentle giants in the misty mountains.
