Beginning in the amazing city of Shanghai where you have plenty of time to explore, you travel to Xian where you come face to face with the famous Terracotta Warriors before flying back south to the capital city Beijing to see all the sights as well as having a memorable trip out to the Great Wall. This tour is perfect for anyone wanting to see the highlights of this fascinating country as well as seasoned travellers.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Shanghai

On arrival at Shanghai's Pudong Airport you will be met by one of our tour representatives and driven to your hotel in the city. Relax after the journey then go out and explore some of this incredible neon-lit city on your own and later try one of the many great local restaurants. The Bund is the best place to get a flavour of the city and a walk along Nanjing Road is a truly memorable experience.

Day 2: Shanghai

This morning a tour introduction will either be held in the hotel or on the coach so you can find out about all the things you will be seeing and doing over the coming days and meet your fellow travellers. Leave Shanghai and drive the three hours to the water canal town of Zhujiajiao . Sightseeing here is leisurely and involves several hours exploring on foot. Return to Shanghai in the afternoon and the evening is free.

Day 3: Shanghai

A full day of sightseeing in the city. You will be taken on a tour around the centre of the city then take a three to four hour walk including a visit to the Old Town where you can go shopping in the crowded Yuan Bazaar. Tonight maybe take in a show performed by the mind-blowing Shanghai acrobats or walk along the Bund and marvel at the views of this neon lit city from the top of China's tallest building in the business district.

Day 4: Shanghai to Xian

More time this morning after breakfast to explore the city possibly visiting the colonial style Peace Hotel at the end of the Nanjing Road before you are taken to the airport for your two and half hour flight north to Xian, home of the world famous Terracotta Army. On arrival at Xian you will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel and the rest of the evening is free. Possibly go out to a restaurant and try the delicious local dumplings.

Day 5: Xian

A highlight of the tour today when you are taken to the Museum of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses about an hour's drive outside the city. Within the museum area the warriors can be seen in three different ‘pits’, which are active archaeological digs, and you have plenty of time to walk around and learn the interesting story of how they were discovered. In the afternoon visit Xian's impressive city wall which you can walk or cycle around.

Day 6: Xian to Beijing

More sightseeing in Xian this morning. First visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and Shaanxi Museum on a two and a half hour walking tour then stop at the Muslim Quarter’s alley market stalls which is a good place to buy souvenirs. In the late afternoon you will be taken to the airport to catch the short flight to Beijing where you will agin be met and driven to your hotel in the city.

Day 7: Beijing

A full day of sightseeing in China's capital city. In the morning take a stroll across huge Tiananmen Square and pass under the picture of Chairman Mao before entering the Forbidden City where you can learn about its fascinating history on a walk. In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Heaven and tonight try Peking Duck at one of the many fine restaurants near your hotel or go out and sample the nightlife.

Day 8: Beijing

An early start this morning for your trip out to the Great Wall. Travel 50 miles to the northwest of the city to the Juyongguan Pass section of the Great Wall arriving early to avoid the crowds and the heat of the day. After you have been given an introduction to the Great Wall’s unique history you will have free time to walk along the wall at your own pace. After lunch, drive to the Summer Palace in the north of the city, which is set in a huge park and man-made lake complex.

Day 9: Depart Beijing

Possibly some more time for sightseeing or last minute shopping in Beijing this morning before you are picked up at your hotel and driven to the international airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey back home. This nine day tour makes a great add on to any longer holiday in China and is a great way to see lots of the iconic sights.
