The few houses and the gompas of the tiny village of Devuche can be seen as well as the nunnery on the hill. Day 9: Periche to Lobuche

Today the trail ascends the broad, gently sloping valley from Periche to Phalang Karpo. The views of Tawachee and Cholatse are particularly good from this portion of the trail, which passes through country reported to be the habitat of the snow leopard and where you can use your imigination and try to spot a yeti! Your lodge is not a five star hotel but the friendly service and comfortable room make this the best in the area.

Day 10: Everest Base Camp

Everest base camp, which you reach today, is not actually a specific site. Various expeditions have selected different locations for a semi-permanent camp during their assault on the mountain. Some of the sites that expeditions have used as base camps are identifiable from the debris on the glacier at 5,360m or more. The trip to base camp, while fascinating, is not as spectacular as the ascent of Kalapatthar because there is no view of Everest itself.

Accommodation: Deluxe Snow Land, Room with Shared Facilities

Day 11: Kalapathar

Start early today and after about one-and-half-hours walk you get to see the Khumbu Glacier. The path becomes tougher not because it’s uphill but more rocky and also due to the high altitude. You reach Gorak Shep in about three hours. This was the base camp for the 1952 Swiss Everest expedition. Gork Shep has a small lake that is usually frozen and several monuments to climbers who have died during various Everest expeditions

Accommodation: Deluxe Mother Earth Guest House, Shared Facilities

Day 12: Pangboche

After breakfast at Gork Shep today you begin to re-trace your trail back to Pangboche. By now you should have adapted to the high altitude and be able to fully appreciate the magnificent scenery all around as you leave the Everest Base Camp area which is steeped is so much history and tradition.

Accommodation: Deluxe Everest Summit Lodge, Pangboche

Day 13: Namche

Today as you head back to Namche, if you are not too tired after all your trekking, you can walk to another village to explore. Walk through Syanboche later for another view of Everest if time allows. Overnight back at Namche.

Accommodation: Deluxe Yeti Mountain Home at Namche Bazaar

Day 14: Lukla

Today after breakfast you continue your trek retracing your steps back to Lukla. If you want to shorten this walk it is possible to do so by splitting off the trail at Manju or Phakding.
