Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Yangon

Today you'll arrive in Yangon, often still known as Rangoon. You'll be met at the airport and taken to your hotel to relax before a welcome dinner with your tour leader and travelling companions.

Accommodation: Classic Sedona Hotel Yangon, Superior Room

Day 2: Yangon to Inle Lake

This morning you'll explore Yangon with a walking tour, taking in the city’s wonderful colonial architecture, the lovely Mahabandoola Garden and Independence Monument and the lively Indian Quarter. You'll take lunch at a local tea house before continuing to the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda. In the afternoon you'll fly to Heho and transfer to Inle Lake.

Accommodation: Classic Inle Resort, Garden Cottage Room

Day 3: Inle Lake

You'll start today with delicious noodles or mohinga (Burma’s national dish) before a visit to the bustling morning market. Then you'll board a local boat to start your journey along Inle Lake. Along the way you'll see fishermen demonstrating their unusual "leg-rowing" technique, and floating gardens growing an amazing variety of fruit and vegetables. You'll visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda to see the five images of the Buddha covered in so much gold leaf that their shapes have become distorted. Time permitting, you'll also visit the weaving village of Inpawkhone, a silversmiths’ village and a community which produces hand-made cigars. In the afternoon, you'll cruise to the lakeside village of In Dein. Here you will explore the ancient stupas of Nyaung Ohak and Shwe Inn Thein Paya, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. Some have been restored but many more are in a state of ruin and covered with thick foliage. It's an incredibly atmospheric sight.

Accommodation: Classic Inle Resort, Garden Cottage Room

Day 4: Bagan

Early this morning you'll fly to Bagan. Here you'll find thousands of temples and stupas, most dating back to the 11th-13th centuries. You'll visit some of Bagan’s most important monuments, such as Gubyaukgyi Temple, noted for its beautiful murals and plaster carvings, as well as Ananda Temple, built in 1105AD and containing two Buddha images whose expressions seem to change as you move around the room. You'll end the day with a short climb to the top of one of Bagan’s monuments to watch the sun set over the ancient city.

Accommodation: Classic Thazin Garden, Superior Room

Day 5: Bagan

You'll continue exploring the Bagan region today, with a visit to the charming Minnathu village, where you'll meet the village blacksmith and other craftsmen as well as visiting the 12th-century Dhammayazika Paya, known as "the bad luck temple". Late this afternoon, you'll have some free time to explore or relax before a farewell sunset boat ride with drinks on the Irrawady and a farewell dinner.

Accommodation: Classic Thazin Garden, Superior Room

Day 6: Depart Bagan
