Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Saigon to Can Tho

Leave bustling Saigon, now called Ho Chi Minh City, for the four hour drive to the delta city of Can Tho arriving for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon head out to discover another side of Can Tho travelling by traditional boat with a guide and bicycles on-board. Cross the Hau River then continue to cruise along one of the many canals to visit a local brick factory. Then start cycling through the lush countryside on paths, rough trails and dykes beside the rice fields. Overnight at the Iris hotel in Can Tho City.

Accommodation: Standard Iris Hotel

Day 2: Can Tho to Chau Doc

After breakfast cruise to the colourful Cai Rang floating market to see the maze of boats and the locals selling their produce. The main items sold here are fruit and vegetables and every boat has a long upright pole at its bow from which samples of the goods for sale are hung. After leaving the market you begin the three hour drive to Chau Doc, stopping along the way at the bamboo basket-making hamlet of Long Thanh. The rest of the evening is at leisure. Overnight in Chau Doc.

Accommodation: Standard Chau Pho

Day 3: Chau Doc

Today visit Chau Doc’s market which overlooks the confluence of three rivers, and later take a boat to Chau Giang District where a tiny mosque serves the local Cham community, who practice silk weaving and you see them at work. The architecture here is distinctive and you’ll visit a beautiful Khmer temple, and later see the floating houses that double as catfish farms. Then stop at Sam Mountain, an important pilgrimage site with its dozens of pagodas and temples. The views from the top are spectacular. Overnight in Chau Doc.

Accommodation: Standard Chau Pho

Day 4: Chau Doc to Phnom Penh

An early departure from Chau Doc today for an exciting four hour speedboat ride to Phnom Penh, the magnificent capital city of Cambodia. It’s an hour to the border where you clear visa formalites before continuing into the city where the tour comes to an end. This trip makes a great add on to any longer holiday in the region and in Phnom Penh it is well worth staying on and exploring, seeing the Silver Pagoda and the infamous Killing Fields before possibly travelling to Siem Reap, gateway to the Angkor temple complex.
