Beginning in the northern capital city of Hanoi, you travel south to Saigon stopping along the way for a cruise out into stunning Halong Bay, then visit the enchanting towns of Hue and Hoi An and have a chance to relax on the sandy beaches of Nha Trang. You will see all the highlights of this wonderful country on this comprehensive tour.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Hanoi

Welcome to HanoI! Vietnam’s capital is a city of wide, tree lined boulevards with tranquil lakes, colonial villas and a more sedate pace than most other Asian cities. On arrival at Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport, your guide and driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel in the capital city. This afternoon, wind down and relax after the flight before enjoying a welcome Vietnamese dinner in one of Hanoi's most charming restaurants which is housed in a beautiful villa.

Day 2: Hanoi

Begin today with an introduction to Hanoi's cuisine during a walking street food tour with a famous local food blogger. Stroll through the Old Quarter to Thanh Ha market, which is the essence of Vietnamese culture. Walk through the Old Quarter to Dong Xuan market to sample some local treats and stroll up ‘food alley’ to see other dishes before stopping at a busy coffee shop. In the afternoon continue exploring with a visit to the Temple of Literature, One Pillar Pagoda and the mausoleum of the father of modern Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh.

Day 3: Hanoi to Halong Bay

After breakfast at the hotel, leave Hanoi for the road trip to Halong Bay. Journey through the Red River Delta, observing the everyday life of Vietnamese villagers as they work the rice fields, take pigs to the market on bicycles and plough the fields with water buffaloes. Arrive in Halong pier around midday and board a junk for the overnight journey into the Bay. Lunch is served on board and you later drop anchor for the night. As the sun sets over the bay, dinner is served with fresh seafood, salads and fruits. Overnight in Halong Bay.

Day 4: Halong Bay to Hue

Enjoy a beautiful morning on the waters with a sunrise over the limestone outcrops of Halong. As the boat cruises back to Halong port, enjoy brunch on board while the myriad of limestone rocks glide by. After leaving the boat your guide and driver will be waiting to take you by road to Hanoi’s Noi Bai Domestic Airport. Late that afternoon, board a scheduled domestic flight from to the Imperial City of Hue where you will be met and taken to your next hotel.

Day 5: Hue

Day five is set aside for exploring Hue and its surroundings. Begin with a visit to the UNESCO-celebrated Imperial Citadel. This “Forbidden City” reflects the pomp and ceremony of the dynasty rulers as well as the scars of many years of turmoil, both ancient and modern. Visit the tomb of the Emperor Minh Mang and after lunch in a beautiful pomelo garden take a walk through the countryside stopping for a drink at a local house. On the way back to Hue, visit Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the most well-known symbols of the city.

Day 6: Hue to Hoi An

This morning, leave Hue for the drive to Danang – the largest city in Central Vietnam. This day journey runs from lowlands and beaches to the mountains, stopping at several viewpoints and you have a picnic lunch en route. After the fishing village of Lang Co, the road climbs over the scenic Hai Van Pass, where fabulous views of the coastline await. From the summit, continue down the winding steep slopes of the Son Tra Peninsula, known as Monkey Mountain. Then drive past Danang and arrive at your beachfront hotel.

Day 7: Hoi An

After breakfast, it's time to discover historic Hoi An. Despite the passing of 200 years and the ravages of weather and war, the centre remains much the same as it was in its heyday. Explore the town during a private walking tour, discovering the main places of interest, as well as some of the hidden laneways and local ‘secrets’. After an included lunch the afternoon is free for you to relax at your luxury beachfront resort or explore more of the old town on your own.

Day 8: Hoi An

A free day to soak up the sun and enjoy the range of resort amenities. Hoi An is a charming, old-world trading port of narrow streets and traditional houses and a great place to explore. In addition to its history and culture, it also boasts long stretches of clean, white-sand beach. In keeping with Hoi An’s heritage as a trading port, the town’s tiny shop houses now host a range of craft shops and artisans including some of Asia’s best bespoke tailors.

Day 9: Hoi An to Quy Nhon

Leaving Danang and Hoi An behind, begin a full day’s exploration along one of the most scenic stretches of coastline that Vietnam has to offer on the way to Quy Nhon. The highway hugs the coast revealing typical coastal towns, fishing ports and villages, small coves and stretches of stunning empty beaches. Stop for a picnic at one of them or have a local's lunch at one of the small eateries along the way. There will also be a chance to swim at one of the beaches. On arrival at Quy Nhon, check in to your beachfront resort.

Day 10: Quy Nhon to Nha Trang

Check out of the hotel this morning and continue the Coastal Odyssey travelling further south to Khanh Hoa Province. Today's itinerary is ripe with amazing photo opportunities, deserted beach swims, and stunning vistas. Enjoy lunch at a beachfront restaurant along the way. Nearer to Nha Trang, see stunning Doc Let Beach, renowned for its chalk white sand, clear turquoise water and the famous salt fields at Hon Khoi. In the late afternoon arrive in Nha Trang and check in to your beachfront resort.

Day 11: Nha Trang

After all the travelling, today is a good time to just relax on the sandy beach or by your hotel pool and top up that tropical tan. Your guide and driver will be on hand if you want to explore the area some more and there are plenty of good restaurants where you can try some typical local dishes if you want to eat away from the resort. Now may also be a good time to go shopping for souvenirs of the trip to take back home for family and friends.

Day 12: Nha Trang to Saigon

Today you take a short flight from Nha Trang to dynamic Saigon, now known as Ho Chi Minh City. This afternoon, begin exploring the highlights of Vietnam’s largest city with a local guide visiting the former Presidential Palace, Old Saigon Post Office, Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), the Opera House and City Hall. This evening, soak in a truly local experience with a ‘Saigon After Dark’ Vespa tour buzzing around the streets and stopping for a traditional dinner and visiting a coffee shop and a club.

Day 13: Mekong Delta

Begin a two hour drive to the Mekong Delta where you board a boat for a 30-minute cruise up a small river to begin a cycling tour along shady back roads, past fruit gardens and sleepy villages stopping at some traditional workshops. At a family-run orchard sample some tropical fruits and learn how to catch fish with your bare hands. Then cycling to a stunning 100-year old house where a Vietnamese lunch will be served consisting of dishes only found in the Mekong Delta. Return to Saigon, arriving late afternoon.

Day 14: End of tour

Today your wonderful Coastal Odyssey tour of Vietnam comes to an end. Enjoy some free time in the city, possibly taking a trip out to the famous Chu Chi tunnels or seeing more of the sights before being picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey back home. This 14 day trip will leave you with so many great memories and is the perfect way to see all the famous sights in this fascinating country.
