When visiting India or Pakistan it is well worth taking this short tour to see the Golden Temple of Amritsar. The city is in the northwestern state of Punjab, around 20 miles from the border between the two countries, and the famous gilded building is situated in the centre of the walled old town at the end of a causeway surrounded by a sacred lake and is the holiest complex of the Sikh religion.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Amritsar

On arrival at Amritsar you will be met at the airport by one of our tour representatives and taken to your hotel. Relax after the journey then in the late evening you will be taken to visit the magnificent Golden Temple to witness the “night ceremony” - the traditional bearing of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib from the Harmandir Sahib to Kotha Sahib in the Akal Takht. You then return to your hotel and the rest of the evening is free for you to go out and explore and possibly try one of the local restaurants.

Day 2: Amritsar sightseeing and excursion to Wagah Border

After breakfast return to the Golden Temple, the most exalted of all Sikh shrines, which has drawn pilgrims from near and far for centuries. Later visit Jalianwala Bagh, a solemn reminder of the 2,000 Indians killed and wounded here by the British in 1919. Then visit the Shree Durgiana Mandir, a focal point of faith for the Hindus. In the afternoon you have an excursion to Wagah, the international border of India and Pakistan, often referred to as the “Berlin wall of Asia”. Overnight in Amritsar

Day 3: End of tour

Today your memorable visit to see the Golden Temple of Amritsar comes to an end. Possibly time for some more sightseeing and souvenir shopping in the city or the old town before you are picked up from your hotel and driven back to the airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey home. This short tour makes a great add on to any longer visit to either India or Pakistan and is perfect for anybody wanting to get a greater insight into the Sikh and Hindu faiths
