Beginning and ending in the capital city Lima, you will fly over the spectacular Andes to see all the impressive sights in ancient Cusco. Then its on through the Sacred Valley and up to one of the wonders of the world, stunning Machu Picchu. And as a speciasl extra, you will get to meet a real Paddington Bear when you take a trip to visit a wildlife protection organisation. This tour makes a great add on to any longer holiday in this fascinating South American country and will leave you with so many lasting memories.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Lima

On arrival at the international airport in Lima you will be greeted by one of our tour representatives and taken to your hotel, where you will be briefed on all of your travels during your stay in Peru. The more affluent districts of Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro, which are on the coast, offer good nightlife and cafes and are all within walking distance. Limenos (Lima's residents) are friendly, and the city is filled with excellent restaurants. Seafood lovers should be sure to try a ceviche, for which Lima is well known.

Day 2: Lima to Cusco

After breakfast you will be taken to the airport for your domestic flight over the Andes to Cusco. On arrival you will again be met and taken to your hotel for a briefing on all that you will be seeing and doing in the area. The rest of the day is free to rest and allow your body to acclimatise to the altitude or go out and explore. There are lots of fine restaurants in the area and your guide will recommend good places to eat.

Day 3: Cusco city and surroundings

Today's tour of this magnificent city includes a visit to the cathedral which is considered the best example of colonial art from the Cusco school. Continue to Koricancha, also known as the temple of the sun, the religious and political centre of the city during the Inca era. Then travel just outside the city to visit Sacsayhuaman, the fortress whose precise zigzags of massive stone remain unmoved by the centuries. Then see the labyrinthine ruins of Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay, where fountains built by the Incas capture the waters of a natural spring. Overnight Cusco.

Day 4: Cusco to Machu Picchu

One of the many highlights of the tour today when, after breakfast, you take the train from Cusco, through the Sacred Valley, directly to Machu Picchu. On arrival you will be taken to your hotel where you will be briefed about all the activities in the area and told all about the next days's trip up through a cloud forest to the world famous Inca ruins. Day 5: Machu Piccu

After breakfast, you will have have a full day excursion to Machu Picchu, First board a bus for a 20-minute ride to the sanctuary of Machu Picchu, where we'll have a guided tour to explore this magnificent sample of architectural and hydraulic perfection. The tour includes the citadel's main square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock, the royal rooms, the Temple of the Three Windows and the cemeteries. You'll then have free time to walk around on your own before going back to your hotel.

Day 6: Bear Day

Today you have the chance to meet the real Paddington Bears! You are taken to visit the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Spectacled Bear Project, an organisation set up to recover bears that have been negatively affected by human impact, and reintroduce them into their natural habitat. Once common throughout the Andes, this bear is now critically endangered. You will be given an insight into the world of these large mammals - the only bear species in South America - and learn about the challenges they face to survive in today's world.

Day 7: Machu Picchu to Cusco

Today you say farewell to stunning Machu Picchu and take the train back through the beautiful Sacred Valley to Cusco where you will be picked up at the station and taken back to your hotel. The rest of the day and the evening is free for you to visit more of the sights, shop in the markets and dine at one of the many good restaurants in the heart of the city.

Day 8: Cusco to Lima

Possibly time for some more sightseeing and shopping in Cusco this morning before you are picked up and driven to the airport to catch your flight back to Lima where the tour comes to an end. This fascinating trip to see stunning Machu Picchu combined with a memorable visit to the Andean bear project makes a great add on to any longer holiday in Peru or South America.
