For many visitors Jordan begins and ends with the magical ancient Nabataean city of Petra. And it's true, the Rose Red City is without doubt one of the Middle East's most spectacular, unmissable sights, rivalling Machu Pichu or Angkor Wat for the title of the world's most dramatic 'lost city'. Yet there's so much more to see in Jordan - ruined Roman cities, Crusader castles, desert citadels and powerful biblical sites. And on this great seven day tour you will see them all. Jordan's capital Amman, where your tour begins, is a modern, culturally diverse Arab city and the country also offers great contrasts from the red desert sands of Wadi Rum to the brilliant blues of the coral-filled Gulf of Aqaba to the lifeless Dead Sea.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Amman

On arrival at Amman's Queen Alia International Airport you will be met by one of our tour representatives and taken to your hotel in the city. Time to relax after the journey then perhaps venture out for some sightseeing and have dinner and try the local cuisine in a nearby restaurant.

Day 2: Jerash, Ajloun and Um Qais

A full day visiting Jarash, Ajloun and Um Qais. Ancient Jarash is the most complete and well preserved city of the Roman Empire. Nestled in a green and well-watered valley in the biblical land of Gilead, the remains of the city have long attracted tourists from around the world. Wander among the original temples, theatres, plazas, and colonnaded streets, all enclosed within the city walls. Then drive through pine forests and olive groves to the city of Ajloun to visit the Castle of Saladin. Later at Um Qais you will get beautiful views over the Jordan valley, the Sea of Galilee, and the Golan Heights. Return to Amman for overnight.

Day 3: Amman Tour

Today you will have a city tour of Amman before visiting several Islamic medieval desert castles which boast a number of fortresses with fresco art and zodiac domes. You will visit Qasr Amra from the Umayyads era, Qasr Kharaneh, a Roman then Umayyed fortress built and completed in 710 AD, and Qaser Azraq where Lawrence of Arabia had his headquarters. Return to your city hotel in Amman for overnight.

Day 4: Amman to Madaba, Mount Nebo, Karak and Petra

After breakfast today you will leave for the Rose Red City of Petra. On the way visit Madaba, the city of Mosaics, which has the oldest known mosaic map of the Holy Land. Then continue to famous Mount Nebo to visit the Byzantine Church there and get stunning views over the Jordan Valley. Afterwards continue to Kerak touring it’s castle - one of the finest examples of Crusader military construction - before arriving at your hotel at Petra.

Day 5: Petra

After breakfast you will be taken to Petra for a full day visiting this wonder of the world. The Rose Red city was known as Sela in the Bible and lost to the world for five centuries until it was rediscovered in 1812. Enter Petra on horseback through a narrow gorge carved in the sandstone and opening on to the stunning view of the Treasury, made famous in the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Visit the palace, the High Palaces and the Roman-Style Palace Tomb. Overnight at Petra.

Day 6: Petra, Little Petra, Shoubak Castle, Aqaba, Wadi R

A busy day today. Begin by visiting Little Petra then go on to Shoubak Castle and Aqaba and visit nearby Wadi Rum, where the movies Lawrence of Arabia and Red Planet were filmed. It is a uniquely shaped massive mountain that rose among the red sand of the desert with towering colourful cliffs. Among this emptiness and silence you can camp and explore the desert in 4x4 Jeeps visiting the holographic pictures carved before Christ. Later you are taken to the shores of the Dead Sea for the final night of the tour.

Day 7: Dead Sea – Amman International Airport

Time this morning to relax and possibly swim in the buoyant and salty Dead Sea - the lowest place on Earth - before you are picked up at your hotel and driven to Amman International airport for your onward flight or to begin your journey home taking with you a wealth of memories from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
