Famous as one of the first places in America to be colonised by English settlers, as well as for being the favoured holiday destination of John F Kennedy, Cape Cod's picturesque landscape and mild climate make it a great place to get away from it all for a few days. This four-day tour of the region makes an ideal add-on to a Boston stay.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Boston to Cape Cod/Hyannis

Today you leave Boston and head to Cape Cod. You'll visit the John F Kennedy Museum in Hyannis, and you also may want to visit Provincetown, the outermost point of the Cape, famed as a haven for artists, as well as for its seaport, shopping and dining, especially its Portuguese bakeries. The Provincetown Heritage Museum features artefacts from the days of the Pilgrims, and you can climb the Pilgrim Monument, the tallest granite structure in America.

Accommodation: Superior Inn on the Square or similar

Day 2: Cape Cod

Today's whale-watching cruise is an unforgettable experience. You'll head to Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, where shallow water causes plankton to rise close to the surface, making this the whales’ favourite feeding ground. Have your camera ready for the spectacular photo opportunities.

Accommodation: Superior Inn on the Square or similar

Day 3: Cape Cod

Today you have a choice of taking a ferry trip to either Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket Island. Whichever of these pretty islands you choose, the best ways to explore are on foot, bicycle or horseback. If you're keen on scuba diving, this is an ideal chance to look for sunken treasure, and it's also a great opportunity for a spot of fishing or even a ride in a biplane.

Accommodation: Superior Inn on the Square or similar

Day 4: Cape Cod to Boston

Today it's time to leave Cape Cod and return to Boston, not forgetting to stop en route at Plymouth Rock and remember the 102 Mayflower passengers who founded New England.
