Schweizerhof 4 Star

from £199 per room night

The Schweizerhof St Mortiz started life back in 1897, when it was known as the then four-storey Pension Suisse, located in the heart of what was then the budding winter tourist destination of St Moritz . Now one of the world’s best known, most glamorous ski destinations, St Moritz offers sun and snow in equal measures, and the Schweizerhof is the perfect spot from which to enjoy it.

In 1964, a fifth-storey was added to the Schweizerhof, providing a total of 150 beds, and between 1986 and 2010 several renovations have taken place, so that the Schweizerhof can claim to be the first four-star superior hotel in St. Moritz. Rooms are a mixture of doubles and suites, and all a simply furnished in clean modern style. All the rooms have mountain, ocean or lake views, and some have balconies and terraces, as well as coffee maker, mini bar, flatscreen TVs, wi-fi and telephone, while most of the modern marble bathrooms have bath tubs – essential for that long hot soak after skiing – bathrobes and hairdryers. Suites have comfortable sitting areas with gorgeous views, There are some smaller double rooms that are can be used for single occupancy, while some of the rooms can be linked and extra beds provided to created spacious accommodation for families.

The St Moritz ski area, which includes the Corviglia, Corvatsch and the Diavolezza, boasts 350km of perfect pistes and a state-of-the-art lift system, taking you from 1800 to 3300m above sea level, for fabulous skiing with views of the frozen Engadin lakes. The Schweizerhof is situated just five minutes walk from the Chantarella-Croviglia funicular. While you’re up the mountain, you can visit the hotel’s own Clavadatsch cabin for a delicious stone-baked pizza or roesti cooked over an open fire. Every Friday night on Corvatsch there is the opportunity for night skiing by floodlight, and Diavoleza offerts skiing by Full Moon, for a really unmissable experience. As well as skiing and snowboarding, there is also cross-country skiing, with over 180km of prepared runs, winter hiking, sledging and for those who like their winter sports fast and furious, the St Moritz Celerina Olympic bob run, which opened in 1904, and has since been in continuous use for bob, luge and skeleton racing. And w

The Schweizerhof prides itself on serving light and market fresh food, with a definite lean towards Italian cucina. The à la carte Restaurant Acla, with its beautiful Seganti dining room, which features a wonderful painted ceiling, serves breakfast and dinner, focusing on authentic traditional cuisine such as Wiener Schnitzel and Tafelspitz, while the terrace of the Acla Giardino – open as long as the sun shines – is the perfect spot to enjoy a light lunch or a drink. And there are three bars to choose from – cocktails, champagne and live piano music at the piano bar, a chill-out atmosphere with DJs at the Müli bar, and the lively Stübli pub with live guitar music.
